About the Team:

The Legal team is responsible for all of Tools for Humanity’s legal and government affairs globally. We partner cross-company to help advance blockchain projects, improve our products (hardware devices, non-custodial wallet app, and Proof of Personhood technology), and ensure regulatory compliance in areas such as securities, AML/CFT, consumer protection, trade, IP and labor, among others. About the Opportunity:

The Financial Compliance Lead will manage and run the company’s compliance program. The Lead is responsible for ensuring the company can adequately and proactively manage TFH’s compliance risks, with a significant focus on financial compliance.  

Moreover, this role involves both program management and oversight, as well as executing on routine compliance matters, such as due diligence checks, conducting investigations, implementing quality control processes, and related work streams. The successful candidate will have experience building compliance programs in a fast-paced environment.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive compliance policies and procedures related to TFH’s Global Compliance Program and Anti Money Laundering (AML) Program. 
  • Maintain TFH compliance with BSA requirements.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders including Operations, Product, and Market Operations.
  • Help manage, together with the Anti Money Laundering Compliance Officer, TFH’s Money Service Business registration and related risks and requirements. 
  • Perform online research to complete the KYB/KYC process including reviewing sanctions sites, screen for politically exposed persons (PEPs) and determining (AML) exposure.
  • Research using Nexis Diligence, KYC software (Persona etc.), and other online databases.
  • Maintain our financial compliance records.
  • Manage compliance resources (internal and external) to ensure quality control and appropriate management of the compliance function.

Skills: 

  • Use tech literacy, financial regulation knowledge and legal background to research and execute our financial compliance program.
  • Operational knowledge in running a sound compliance program, with hands-on knowledge and an understanding of regulatory requirements (BSA/AML regs, EU Money Laundering Directives, OFAC requirements and consumer protections regulations).
  • Take responsibility, under attorney supervision, for operationalizing certain core compliance functions, ensuring the implementation of appropriate controls that reflect the business’ inherent risks and regulatory requirements, including: risk-based (KYC/B), transaction monitoring (both on-chain and off-chain), watchlist screening, and regulatory reporting procedures.
  • Collaborate with international teams to prepare consistent and accurate responses and gather materials.

 

About You:

  • You have 5+ years of experience working as a consultant, project manager, financial compliance manager or paralegal, especially at a financial institution, e-Money/payments company, law firm, or other FinTech.
  • You have financial compliance or paralegal skills; Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (e.g., Paralegal certificate or Rechtsanwalt- und Notariatsgehilfe), graduate degree in relevant field preferred but not required.
  • You're tech-savvy
  • You're a strong communicator! In addition to English, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese or Chinese language skills are a plus.

The reasonably estimated salary for this role based in the US at TFH ranges from $180k - $230k, plus a competitive long term incentive package. Actual compensation is based on factors such as the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.
